SILDENAFIL (Viagra)

Theoretically, concurrent use of sildenafil and L-arginine might increase the risk for hypotension.
In vivo, concurrent use of L-arginine and sildenafil has resulted in increased vasodilation. Theoretically, concurrent use might have additive vasodilatory and hypotensive effects. However, in studies evaluating the combined use of L-arginine and sildenafil for erectile dysfunction, hypotension was not reported.

Here's the gist: both sildenafil and L-arginine work on the same plumbing in your body. Sildenafil widens blood vessels through the nitric oxide pathway, and L-arginine is a building block your body uses to make nitric oxide. So in theory, stacking the two could add up and relax your blood vessels a little more than expected, which might nudge your blood pressure lower.

If that happened, you could notice things like lightheadedness, dizziness, a headache, or feeling flushed, especially when standing up quickly. I want to be honest though, this is a theoretical concern based on how the two work, and studies pairing them for erectile dysfunction didn't actually report low blood pressure. Still, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them, particularly if you take other heart or blood pressure medicines.

About Sildenafil

What Is Sildenafil Used For?

Brand name: Revatio

Sildenafil treats two distinct conditions depending on the product. Viagra (tablet) and Vybrique (dissolving oral film) are approved for erectile dysfunction (ED) — difficulty getting or keeping an erection. Generic sildenafil tablets and oral film are also approved for ED.

Revatio and several generic sildenafil products (tablets, oral suspension, and injection) are used for pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) — high blood pressure in the arteries of the lungs — in adults to improve exercise ability and slow the disease from getting worse. Revatio oral suspension and injection are also approved for PAH in children ages 1 to 17.
