Latilactobacillus sakei preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and L. sakei preparations by at least two hours.

Here's the thing to know with Retapamulin (Altabax): it's an antibiotic you rub onto the skin to clear up impetigo. Since Latilactobacillus sakei is a live probiotic, any antibiotic nearby can kill off some of those friendly bacteria. So the worry runs the other direction from what people usually expect. The antibiotic doesn't get weaker, the probiotic does.

In practice this is mostly a concern when both touch the same spot of skin, and it's based on theory rather than solid studies. If you're using the probiotic on your skin, just keep it away from where you apply Retapamulin and space them out. When in doubt, check with your pharmacist or doctor first.
