Here's the gist for your gold-based arthritis medicine, Auranofin (Ridaura). Some medications can make your skin more sensitive to sunlight, and certain lime compounds, especially the oils found in concentrated lime essential oil, can do the same thing. Put the two together and the worry is a bit more sun sensitivity, meaning you could burn faster or develop a rash on sun-exposed skin.

I want to be honest about how soft this evidence is. It's theoretical, based on lab work with lime oil rather than real patient reports. Squeezing lime into your food or drink is very unlikely to cause trouble. The bigger question is concentrated lime oil applied to your skin before sun. If you use any lime oil products, mention it to your pharmacist, and practice good sunscreen habits while on Auranofin.

What Is Auranofin Used For?

Brand name: Ridaura

Auranofin capsules — sold as both Ridaura and Auranofin — are used to manage active rheumatoid arthritis in adults. Specifically, they're for people whose arthritis hasn't improved enough with full doses of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like ibuprofen or naproxen, or who couldn't tolerate those medicines.

It works best alongside a full treatment program — not as a stand-alone fix. It's important to know that it doesn't work quickly: you may not notice improvement for three to six months, and it cannot reverse joint or bone damage that has already occurred.
