Tragacanth contains hydrocolloidal fiber which can decrease, increase, or not affect oral drug absorption. To avoid changes in absorption, take tragacanth 30-60 minutes after oral medications.

Here's the simple version. Tragacanth is a plant gum that swells into a thick gel when it meets water in your stomach. That gel can act like a sponge or a barrier and may grab onto a pill that's sitting in your gut, so a little less (or sometimes more) of your Auranofin (Ridaura) could get absorbed. Auranofin is a gold-based arthritis medicine, not a prodrug, so the worry is mostly about getting the right amount into your system.

Honestly, this is theoretical, based on how the gum behaves rather than real cases. If absorption dipped, your joint pain and stiffness might not improve as well. To stay safe, simply separate them: take your Auranofin first, then the tragacanth 30 to 60 minutes later. Check with your pharmacist if you're unsure.

Tragacanth is a plant gum used mainly as a thickener and emulsifier in foods, cosmetics, and medicines, and traditionally to soothe the throat and gut. There is very little solid human research showing it treats any specific condition. It is generally considered safe in food amounts, but anyone with allergies or who is pregnant or breastfeeding should check with a pharmacist or doctor first.

What Is Auranofin Used For?

Brand name: Ridaura

Auranofin capsules — sold as both Ridaura and Auranofin — are used to manage active rheumatoid arthritis in adults. Specifically, they're for people whose arthritis hasn't improved enough with full doses of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like ibuprofen or naproxen, or who couldn't tolerate those medicines.

It works best alongside a full treatment program — not as a stand-alone fix. It's important to know that it doesn't work quickly: you may not notice improvement for three to six months, and it cannot reverse joint or bone damage that has already occurred.
