Here's the simple version. Tragacanth is a plant gum that swells into a thick, slippery gel when it hits water in your stomach. The concern is that this gel could grab onto a pill like your hydrocodone and slow or change how much of it your body actually soaks up. In theory that could mean either weaker pain relief or, if absorption goes the other way, more of the usual opioid effects like drowsiness, constipation, and slowed breathing.

I want to be honest: this is a theoretical concern based on how the gum behaves, not something proven in studies. Food amounts are unlikely to matter. To stay on the safe side, separate them by taking tragacanth about 30 to 60 minutes after your hydrocodone, and check with your pharmacist first.
