Satralizumab falls under IMMUNOSUPPRESSANTS — the group Mace interacts with.

Animal research suggests that mace lignans can suppress immune function. Theoretically, concomitant use might enhance the effects of immunosuppressant drugs. Immunosuppressant drugs include azathioprine (Imuran), basiliximab (Simulect), cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune), daclizumab (Zenapax), muromonab-CD3 (OKT3, Orthoclone OKT3), mycophenolate (CellCept), tacrolimus (FK506, Prograf), sirolimus (Rapamune), prednisone (Deltasone, Orasone), and other corticosteroids (glucocorticoids).

Here's the gist with Enspryng (satralizumab) and mace. Satralizumab is a lab-made antibody that quiets down an overactive immune system to treat NMOSD. Mace, the spice from the nutmeg tree, contains plant compounds (lignans) that in animal studies seemed to dampen immune activity too. So the theory is that piling mace on top of an immunosuppressant could add to that effect, leaving you a bit more open to infections.

I want to be honest: this is purely theoretical, based on lab pharmacology, not on real human cases. Using mace as a normal cooking spice is very unlikely to matter here. The caution is mainly about concentrated mace supplements. Before adding one, please run it by your pharmacist or neurologist, and watch for any signs of infection like fever or sore throat.

Mace is the lacy red covering of the nutmeg seed and comes from the same tree as nutmeg. What Is Satralizumab-mwge Injection Used For?

  • Satralizumab-mwge injection is used to treat neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD; an autoimmune disorder of the nervous system that affects eye nerves and the spinal cord) in certain adults. Satralizumab-mwge is in a class of medications called interleukin-6 (IL-6) receptor inhibitors. It works by blocking the activity of the part of the immune system that may damage certain areas of the nervous system in people with NMOSD.
