Satralizumab falls under IMMUNOSUPPRESSANTS — the group Ashwagandha interacts with.

Theoretically, taking ashwagandha might decrease the effects of immunosuppressants.
Ashwagandha has demonstrated immunostimulant effects in humans. Animal research has shown that ashwagandha can attenuate the immunosuppression caused by cyclophosphamide.

Here's the thinking behind this pairing. Satralizumab (Enspryng) works by calming down part of your immune system to help control NMOSD. Ashwagandha, on the other hand, may gently rev the immune system up. So in theory, taking them together could work against your medication and make it a little less effective at keeping your NMOSD in check.

I'll be honest with you though: this concern comes from lab and animal studies, not from real people taking these two together, so it's mostly theoretical. Still, since satralizumab is doing important protective work, I'd loop in your neurologist or pharmacist before adding ashwagandha. They can help you weigh it and watch for any change in how you're feeling.

What Is Satralizumab-mwge Injection Used For?

  • Satralizumab-mwge injection is used to treat neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD; an autoimmune disorder of the nervous system that affects eye nerves and the spinal cord) in certain adults. Satralizumab-mwge is in a class of medications called interleukin-6 (IL-6) receptor inhibitors. It works by blocking the activity of the part of the immune system that may damage certain areas of the nervous system in people with NMOSD.
