Warfarin Sodium falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES — the group Ashwagandha interacts with.
In vitro research shows that ashwagandha extract induces CYP1A2 enzymes.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist for warfarin (Coumadin). Lab studies hint that ashwagandha may speed up a liver enzyme called CYP1A2, which is one of the pathways that helps clear warfarin. In theory, that could lower your warfarin levels a bit, meaning your blood might clot a little more easily and you could lose some protection against clots. Warfarin is a narrow-therapeutic-index drug, so even small shifts can nudge your INR off target.
That said, this is only a theoretical, test-tube finding, not something proven in people, so I wouldn't panic. If you and your doctor decide to add ashwagandha, the smart move is simply to keep up with your regular INR checks and let your pharmacist know so they can watch the numbers.

Here's the thinking on combining ashwagandha with warfarin. Some lab research suggests ashwagandha may speed up an enzyme called CYP3A4, which is one of the pathways your body uses to clear warfarin. If that happened in real life, your warfarin could clear a little faster, which might weaken its blood-thinning effect and leave you slightly less protected against clots.
I want to be honest: this is only a theoretical concern based on test-tube and animal data, not human studies, so it may not matter much at all. But warfarin is a finicky drug where even small shifts can change your INR. Before adding ashwagandha, check with your pharmacist or doctor, and keep up with your regular INR testing so any change gets caught early.

What Is Warfarin Used For?
Brand names: Coumadin, Panwarfin, Sofarin
Warfarin sodium tablets and Jantoven tablets are both used to prevent and treat venous thrombosis (blood clots in the veins) and pulmonary embolism (a clot in the lungs). They are also used to prevent clot-related complications in people with atrial fibrillation (an irregular heart rhythm) or who have had a heart valve replaced.
In people who have had a heart attack, warfarin is used to reduce the risk of death, another heart attack, stroke, or other clotting events. It does not dissolve an existing clot, but it helps prevent the clot from growing and stops new dangerous clots from forming.
