Why this applies to Aripiprazole Lauroxil

Aripiprazole Lauroxil falls under CNS DEPRESSANTS — the group Mace interacts with.

Several volatile oils in mace, such as methyleugenol, isoeugenol, safrole, myristicin, 1,8-cineole, and geranyl acetate, seem to have sedative effects. Evidence from animal research suggests that methyleugenol can induce anesthesia for a similar duration as pentobarbital. Due to the sedative effects of certain mace constituents, taking medicinal amounts of mace in combination with other CNS depressants may have additive effects. However, evidence from other animal research suggests that myristicin can reduce sleeping time in rats pretreated with phenobarbital. Until more is known, use medicinal amounts of mace cautiously in combination with CNS depressants. Some CNS depressants include clonazepam (Klonopin), lorazepam (Ativan), phenobarbital (Donnatal), zolpidem (Ambien), and others.

Here's the simple version. Aristada (aripiprazole lauroxil) is a long-acting antipsychotic shot, and one thing it can do is make you feel drowsy or mentally slowed down. Mace, the spice, contains aromatic oils that may have a mild calming or sedating effect of their own. So the concern is that piling the two together could add up to more sleepiness, grogginess, dizziness, or trouble concentrating than you'd get from the medication alone.

I want to be honest with you though: this is a theoretical worry based mostly on animal lab work, not on real human cases. Using mace as a normal cooking spice is very unlikely to cause any problem. The caution really applies to large, concentrated mace supplements. If you're thinking about those, run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

Aripiprazole injection is used to treat schizophrenia and to provide maintenance treatment for bipolar I disorder in adults. Different injectable products carry these approvals.

Abilify Asimtufii is approved for the treatment of schizophrenia in adults and as maintenance monotherapy for bipolar I disorder in adults. Aristada is approved for the treatment of schizophrenia in adults, with Aristada Initio used specifically to help start Aristada therapy.
