Here's the gist with marshmallow and your lansoprazole (Prevacid). Marshmallow root is loaded with mucilage, a slippery fiber that forms a gel in your gut. The theory is that this gel could coat your stomach and intestines and slow down or partly block how well a swallowed medicine gets absorbed. If that happened with lansoprazole, you might get a little less of it into your system, which could mean weaker heartburn or acid control.

I want to be honest though: this is a theoretical concern based on how the fiber behaves, not something proven to cause real problems with this drug. To be safe and keep things simple, take your lansoprazole first and wait about 30 to 60 minutes before your marshmallow. If you have questions, your pharmacist is happy to help.

Marshmallow root is a traditional herb rich in soothing, gel-like fibers called mucilage, which is why it has long been used for coughs, sore throats, and stomach irritation. Evidence for these uses is mostly traditional and preliminary, but it is generally considered gentle and well-tolerated for short-term use. What Is Lansoprazole Used For?

Brand name: Prevacid

Lansoprazole is prescribed for a range of conditions where excess stomach acid is the problem. It treats active stomach and duodenal ulcers (sores in the stomach or upper small intestine), helps heal ulcers caused by NSAID pain relievers, and can reduce the risk of those ulcers coming back.

It's also used for gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), erosive esophagitis (acid damage to the esophagus), and rare conditions where the stomach makes far too much acid — like Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. When combined with antibiotics, it helps wipe out H. pylori bacteria that cause recurring ulcers.
