Dextromethorphan falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Methoxylated Flavones interacts with.
Some drugs metabolized by CYP1A2 include clozapine (Clozaril), cyclobenzaprine (Flexeril), fluvoxamine (Luvox), haloperidol (Haldol), imipramine (Tofranil), mexiletine (Mexitil), olanzapine (Zyprexa), Pentazocine (Talwin), propranolol (Inderal), tacrine (Cognex), theophylline (Slo-bid, Theo-Dur, others), zileuton (Zyflo), Zolmitriptan (Zomig), and others.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist for your cough medicine. Methoxylated flavones from citrus peel may, at least in test tubes, slow down an enzyme called CYP3A4. Since your body uses that same enzyme to help break down dextromethorphan, the theory is that blocking it could let more of the drug build up. That might mean stronger or longer-lasting effects, like drowsiness, dizziness, or a foggy, woozy feeling.
The good news: this is only seen in lab studies, never reported in actual people, and not all of these flavones even do it. Food amounts of citrus peel are very unlikely to cause trouble. If you're considering a concentrated supplement, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

Dextromethorphan temporarily relieves cough due to minor throat and bronchial irritation, such as the kind that comes with the common cold or breathing in irritants. It also helps reduce the urge to cough so you — or your child — can get to sleep.
