ORGANIC ANION-TRANSPORTING POLYPEPTIDE SUBSTRATES (OATP)
Why this applies to Pravastatin Sodium
Pravastatin Sodium falls under ORGANIC ANION-TRANSPORTING POLYPEPTIDE SUBSTRATES (OATP) — the group Methoxylated Flavones interacts with.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist for pravastatin (Pravachol). To do its cholesterol-lowering job, pravastatin has to be carried into your liver cells by special transporters called OATPs. In lab dish studies, citrus peel compounds known as methoxylated flavones appear to block those same transporters. If that were to happen in people, less pravastatin would reach the liver, which could make it work a little less well at lowering your LDL (the "bad" cholesterol).
The important caveat: this comes only from test-tube research and has never actually been seen in humans. Everyday culinary amounts of citrus are very unlikely to matter; concentrated supplements are the bigger question mark. There's no need to worry, but if you're considering a supplement like this, run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

About Methoxylated Flavones
What is Methoxylated Flavones?
- Antioxidant support
- Circulation and blood vessel health
- Anti-inflammatory support
- Skin and aging support
- General 'metabolism' or wellness blends
Methoxylated flavones (often called polymethoxyflavones) are a group of plant compounds, found mainly in citrus peel, that include substances like nobiletin and tangeretin. Lab and animal studies suggest possible antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects, but solid human research is very limited, so their real-world benefits are unproven. Talk with a pharmacist or doctor before using them, especially if you take medicines or are pregnant or breastfeeding.
About Pravastatin
What Is Pravastatin Used For?
Brand name: Pravachol
Pravastatin is used alongside a healthy diet to lower high cholesterol and triglycerides. It is also used to lower the risk of heart attack, procedures to reopen blocked heart arteries, and death from heart disease.
Pravastatin tablets are also used in children and teens ages 8 and older with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (an inherited form of high cholesterol) when diet alone has not been enough.
