Acebutolol falls under BETA-BLOCKERS — the group Octacosanol interacts with.

Theoretically, concomitant use of octacosanol with beta-blockers might result in additive hypotensive effects.
Octacosanol is the main component of policosanol. Clinical research shows that policosanol 5 mg daily can have additive blood pressure-lowering effects in patients with hypertension who are taking beta-blockers. Also, animal research shows that policosanol can increase the hypotensive effects of propranolol. It is not clear if these effects occur with the use of octacosanol.

Here's the gist: octacosanol is the main piece of policosanol, a supplement that has been shown in good studies to gently lower blood pressure. Since acebutolol (Sectral) is a beta blocker that already lowers your blood pressure and slows your heart rate, stacking the two could add up. The result might be blood pressure that drops a little more than expected, leaving you feeling dizzy, lightheaded, tired, or faint, especially when you stand up quickly.

I'll be honest about the evidence: the strong data is on policosanol, not octacosanol by itself, so it's not certain octacosanol does the same thing. This isn't dangerous for most people, but if you want to try it, check with your pharmacist or doctor first and keep an eye on your blood pressure readings.

What Is Acebutolol Used For?

Acebutolol Hydrochloride capsules are used to manage high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults. They can be used on their own or alongside other blood pressure medications, particularly thiazide-type diuretics.

They are also used to treat ventricular premature beats — extra, out-of-rhythm heartbeats that originate in the lower chambers of the heart. Acebutolol reduces how often these abnormal beats occur, including complex patterns that can be more concerning.
