Here's the simple version: American Hellebore is a toxic plant that on its own pushes your blood pressure and heart rate way down. Acebutolol (Sectral) does the very same thing, since it's a beta blocker that slows your heart and lowers your pressure. Stack the two together and those effects pile on top of each other.

That combination can leave you with a dangerously slow heartbeat, blood pressure that drops too low, dizziness, lightheadedness, fainting, or feeling very drowsy. This isn't a maybe, it's a well-documented and serious concern, and Hellebore can be poisonous even in tiny amounts. Please don't take any Hellebore product while on acebutolol without first checking with your doctor or pharmacist.

What Is Acebutolol Used For?

Acebutolol Hydrochloride capsules are used to manage high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults. They can be used on their own or alongside other blood pressure medications, particularly thiazide-type diuretics.

They are also used to treat ventricular premature beats — extra, out-of-rhythm heartbeats that originate in the lower chambers of the heart. Acebutolol reduces how often these abnormal beats occur, including complex patterns that can be more concerning.
