Why this applies to Diclofenac Sodium

Diclofenac Sodium falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Octacosanol interacts with.

Theoretically, octacosanol might inhibit platelet aggregation; however, clinical research suggests that this effect may not be clinically significant.
Octacosanol is the main component of policosanol. Some clinical research shows that taking policosanol 10-50 mg daily for 7-15 days can inhibit platelet aggregation in healthy patients. However, one clinical trial shows that taking policosanol 10 mg twice daily for 2 weeks prior to initiating warfarin does not affect warfarin pharmacokinetics or warfarin response. Furthermore, a study in patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention with a drug-eluting stent found that taking policosanol 40 mg plus clopidogrel and aspirin daily for 30 days modestly reduced the risk for minor bleeding events when compared with taking clopidogrel and aspirin alone.

Here's the gist with diclofenac and octacosanol. Diclofenac is an NSAID, and like other NSAIDs it can already nudge your blood toward bleeding more easily, especially in the stomach. Octacosanol has been studied for a mild blood-thinning effect (it's the main piece of policosanol), so in theory stacking the two could add up to a bit more bruising, nosebleeds, or stomach irritation.

That said, the human research here is pretty weak and mixed. In real-world studies this platelet effect often didn't turn out to be clinically meaningful, so for most people this isn't a major worry. Still, if you take diclofenac regularly or have any history of ulcers or easy bleeding, mention the supplement to your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

Diclofenac sodium topical gel is used to treat actinic keratoses (AK) — rough, scaly skin patches that form after years of sun exposure. These patches are considered precancerous, meaning they can develop into skin cancer if left untreated.
