Octacosanol + Insulin
Insulin brand name: NovoRapid Insulin.
Octacosanol has a moderate interaction with Insulin. Theoretically, octacosanol might have additive effects when used in combination with antidiabetes drugs.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
ANTIDIABETES DRUGS
Why this applies to Insulin
Insulin falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group Octacosanol interacts with.
Octacosanol is the main component of policosanol. In humans, policosanol can decrease blood glucose. It is not clear if these effects occur with the use of octacosanol.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the simple version: insulin already does the main job of pushing your blood sugar down. The thought is that octacosanol might nudge your blood sugar a little lower too, so stacking the two could add up and leave you running lower than usual. If that happens, you might notice the classic signs of low blood sugar with insulin, like shakiness, sweating, a racing heart, dizziness, or feeling foggy.
I want to be honest about the strength of this, though. It's mostly theoretical and based on policosanol (octacosanol is its main piece), not on solid octacosanol studies. So it may not amount to much. Still, if you decide to try it, check your sugars a bit more closely at first and talk with your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything.

Every interaction above is graded three ways — here’s the key to each label.
Clinically significant. Avoid the combination, or use only under close professional supervision.
Usually worth avoiding or managing — may need monitoring, a dose change, or timing apart.
Generally not serious. Be aware of it and mention it to your pharmacist.
- LikelyWell-controlled human studies have demonstrated the likely existence of this interaction.
- ProbableInteraction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports.
- PossibleInteraction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
- UnlikelyInteraction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Insulin page
“Someone injecting insulin (NovoRapid) is often the same person browsing supplements sold for blood sugar support, which is exactly why this list warrants genuine caution. Nearly all 242 entries push glucose one way or the other, most often further down, stacking with insulin and raising the risk of hypoglycemia, meaning dangerously low…”

About Octacosanol
What is Octacosanol?
- Physical performance and endurance
- Cholesterol support
- Parkinson's and movement concerns
- Antioxidant support
- General energy and stamina
Octacosanol is a waxy long-chain alcohol from plant sources that is most often promoted for exercise endurance and cholesterol support, but solid human evidence is limited and results are mixed. It appears generally well tolerated in supplement amounts, but it is not a proven treatment for any condition, so talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using it.

Insulin Is Linked to Lower Levels of 2 Nutrients
Natural Medicines records Insulin as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Octacosanol — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
