Canagliflozin, Metformin falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group Phellodendron interacts with.

Theoretically, phellodendron may increase the risk of hypoglycemia when taken with antidiabetes drugs.
Phellodendron contains berberine. Clinical research shows that berberine may lower blood glucose levels. Theoretically, phellodendron might also lower blood glucose levels.

Here's the gist: Invokamet already pulls your blood sugar down two ways (canagliflozin makes you spill sugar in your urine, and metformin lowers the sugar your liver makes). Phellodendron contains berberine, which on its own may also nudge blood sugar lower. Stacked together, the worry is that your levels could dip too far.

To be fair, this is a theoretical concern based on how berberine behaves, not strong human proof for the two combined. Still, if you do try phellodendron, keep an eye out for low-sugar signs like shakiness, sweating, dizziness, or feeling foggy. Please loop in your pharmacist or doctor before adding it so they can help you watch your numbers.

Theoretically, phellodendron might increase the therapeutic and adverse effects of metformin.
Phellodendron contains berberine. In vitro and animal studies show that berberine can increase the systemic exposure and half-life of metformin, potentially increasing metformin's effects and side effects. This interaction seems to be most apparent when berberine is administered 2 hours prior to metformin. Taking berberine and metformin at the same time does not appear to increase systemic exposure to metformin. It is unclear if phellodendron might have this same effect.

Your Invokamet combines two diabetes medicines: canagliflozin and metformin. The interaction here is really about the metformin part. Phellodendron contains berberine, and in lab and animal studies berberine seemed to slow how fast the body clears metformin, letting a bit more build up. If that happens in people, you might feel metformin's effects more strongly, which could mean lower blood sugar plus its usual side effects like nausea, an upset stomach, or diarrhea.

I want to be honest though: this is theoretical, based mostly on test-tube and animal data, and timing seemed to matter (taking them together didn't raise levels much). It's a maybe, not a certainty. Before adding phellodendron, check with your pharmacist or doctor, and watch for low blood sugar signs like shakiness or sweating.
