This combination cold and cough product contains dextromethorphan, which your body clears using a liver enzyme called CYP2D6. The berberine in phellodendron may slow that enzyme down a bit. If it does, dextromethorphan could build up and hang around longer than usual, which may mean more drowsiness, dizziness, or in higher amounts feeling jittery or confused.

Keep in mind this is a theoretical concern based mostly on lab work, not strong human studies, so for most people it likely won't cause real trouble. Still, if you take phellodendron regularly and use this medicine often, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them. Don't stop either one on your own.

Here's the gist with this combination cold-and-cough product (DA Chewable). The berberine in phellodendron may gently slow down a liver enzyme called CYP3A4, which helps break down dextromethorphan, the cough-suppressing ingredient. If that clearance slows, a bit more dextromethorphan could linger in your system, which might mean more drowsiness, dizziness, or a foggy feeling than usual.

I want to keep this in perspective though. This is a theoretical concern based mostly on lab work, not strong real-world reports, so the practical risk is likely small for most folks. Still, if you take a concentrated phellodendron supplement regularly, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before pairing them, especially since this product also contains an antihistamine-type ingredient that adds to drowsiness.

Phellodendron contains berberine. Preliminary clinical research shows that berberine can inhibit cytochrome P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) activity and reduce the metabolism of dextromethorphan. Theoretically, phellodendron may also inhibit the metabolism of dextromethorphan.

This combo product includes dextromethorphan, the cough suppressant. Your body clears dextromethorphan mainly through a liver enzyme called CYP2D6. Phellodendron contains berberine, which can slow that same enzyme down. So in theory, taking the two together could let dextromethorphan build up a bit more than usual, which might mean more drowsiness, dizziness, or that floaty, confused feeling some people get from it.

I want to be honest though: this concern is mostly based on how these compounds behave on paper and in early studies, not on strong real-world reports.
