Fondaparinux falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Phellodendron interacts with.

Theoretically, phellodendron might increase the risk of bleeding when used with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
Phellodendron contains berberine. In vitro and in vivo research suggest that berberine can inhibit platelet aggregation. Theoretically, phellodendron might also inhibit platelet aggregation.

Here's the gist: fondaparinux (Arixtra) is already a powerful blood thinner that lowers your blood's ability to clot. Phellodendron contains berberine, and in lab and animal studies that compound seems to make platelets (the cells that help form clots) a little stickier-resistant, meaning they don't clump together as easily. Stack that on top of fondaparinux, and in theory you could tip a bit further toward easy bleeding.

What that might look like: more bruising, nosebleeds, bleeding gums, or cuts that take longer to stop. To be honest, this concern is theoretical and comes from lab data, not real-world human studies, so I don't want to scare you. Still, since fondaparinux is serious medicine, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before pairing the two.

Phellodendron is a traditional Chinese medicine bark (Huang Bai) that contains berberine and other plant compounds with antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory activity in lab studies. Human evidence for most uses is limited, and it is often sold in combination with other herbs, making its individual effects hard to judge. About Fondaparinux Injection

What Is Fondaparinux Injection Used For?

Brand name: Arixtra

Fondaparinux sodium injection is used to prevent deep vein thrombosis (DVT) — blood clots that form in the legs — in adults who are having hip fracture surgery, hip replacement surgery, knee replacement surgery, or abdominal surgery. Preventing these clots also lowers the risk of a clot traveling to the lungs (pulmonary embolism, or PE).

It is also used to treat acute DVT and acute pulmonary embolism in adults, typically started alongside warfarin. In children aged 1 year and older who weigh at least 10 kg (about 22 lbs), fondaparinux sodium injection is approved to treat venous thromboembolism (VTE) — blood clots in the veins.
