Here's the key thing to know: the pseudoephedrine half of Actifed is itself a stimulant decongestant. Phenpromethamine is also a stimulant, chemically similar to amphetamines, and it has been slipped illegally into some weight-loss and sports products. Stacking two stimulants like this can pile their effects on top of each other.

In practice, that could mean a faster or pounding heartbeat, higher blood pressure, jitteriness, headache, or trouble sleeping. This warning is theoretical, based on how these drugs act rather than on hard studies, so it is a caution, not a guarantee. Still, the safest move is to avoid any product containing phenpromethamine entirely. If you spot it on a label or feel off after taking these together, please check with your pharmacist or doctor.
