Picrorhiza seems to have immunostimulating activity. Theoretically, picrorhiza may interfere with immunosuppressant therapy. Immunosuppressant drugs include azathioprine (Imuran), basiliximab (Simulect), cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune), daclizumab (Zenapax), muromonab-CD3 (OKT3, Orthoclone OKT3), mycophenolate (CellCept), tacrolimus (FK506, Prograf), sirolimus (Rapamune), prednisone (Deltasone, Orasone), and other corticosteroids (glucocorticoids).

Here's the gist with Humira (adalimumab): it's a biologic that quiets down an overactive immune system to calm the inflammation behind things like rheumatoid arthritis and Crohn's disease. Picrorhiza, on the other hand, may gently stimulate the immune system. So in theory, the herb could push in the opposite direction and blunt how well your Humira works, meaning more joint pain, swelling, or flare-ups could sneak back in.

I want to be honest about the evidence here, though. This concern comes only from lab and animal studies, not from people taking these two together, so it's more of a theoretical caution than a proven problem. Still, since you're relying on Humira to keep your disease controlled, I'd run any Picrorhiza use by your pharmacist or doctor first before adding it.

What Is Adalimumab Injection Used For?

Brand name: Humira

Adalimumab injection treats a range of moderate-to-severe inflammatory conditions in adults and some children. These include rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, plaque psoriasis, hidradenitis suppurativa (a chronic skin condition), and non-infectious uveitis (inflammation inside the eye). It is also approved to treat polyarticular juvenile idiopathic arthritis in patients as young as 2 years old, and Crohn's disease in children 6 years and older.

Yuflyma is additionally approved for non-infectious uveitis in pediatric patients 2 years and older, and for hidradenitis suppurativa in patients 12 years and older. Not every brand or formulation is approved for every condition listed — your prescriber will match the right product to your specific diagnosis.
