Glipizide falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group Picrorhiza interacts with.

Evidence from animal research suggests that an extract of picrorhiza can reduce fasting and non-fasting blood sugar levels. Theoretically, picrorhiza might have additive effects with antidiabetes drugs and increase the risk of hypoglycemia. Monitor blood glucose levels closely. Dose adjustments might be necessary. Some antidiabetes drugs include glimepiride (Amaryl), glyburide (DiaBeta, Glynase PresTab, Micronase), insulin, pioglitazone (Actos), rosiglitazone (Avandia), and others.

Here's the gist: glipizide already lowers your blood sugar by nudging your pancreas to release more insulin. In animal studies, picrorhiza on its own appeared to bring blood sugar down too. So if you take both together, the worry is a stacking effect, meaning your sugar could drop lower than you'd want.

If that happens, you might feel the usual signs of low blood sugar: shakiness, sweating, a fast heartbeat, dizziness, confusion, or feeling unusually hungry. I want to be straight with you though: this is based on lab and animal research, not solid human studies, so it's more of a theoretical caution than a proven problem. If you do decide to use picrorhiza, check your glucose more often and let your pharmacist or doctor know, since your glipizide dose might need a tweak.
