Alemtuzumab falls under IMMUNOSUPPRESSANTS — the group Picrorhiza interacts with.

Picrorhiza seems to have immunostimulating activity. Theoretically, picrorhiza may interfere with immunosuppressant therapy. Immunosuppressant drugs include azathioprine (Imuran), basiliximab (Simulect), cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune), daclizumab (Zenapax), muromonab-CD3 (OKT3, Orthoclone OKT3), mycophenolate (CellCept), tacrolimus (FK506, Prograf), sirolimus (Rapamune), prednisone (Deltasone, Orasone), and other corticosteroids (glucocorticoids).

Here's the basic idea. Alemtuzumab (Campath) works by steering your immune system to attack abnormal white blood cells. Picrorhiza, on the other hand, seems to have a mild immune-boosting effect in lab and animal studies. The worry is that an herb nudging your immune system in a different direction could, in theory, tug against how a carefully dosed immune therapy like this is meant to work.

I want to be honest about the strength of this: it's theoretical, based on test-tube and animal data, not real patient results. We don't have proof it actually causes a problem with Campath. Still, since this is a serious cancer medicine, this isn't an herb to add on your own. Please loop in your oncologist or pharmacist before using picrorhiza.

What Is Alemtuzumab Injection (Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia) Used For?

Brand name: Campath

Alemtuzumab (brand name Lemtrada) is approved for adults with relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis (MS) — including relapsing-remitting MS and active secondary progressive MS. Because it carries serious risks, it is generally reserved for people who have already tried at least two other MS medications without adequate results.

It is not recommended for people with clinically isolated syndrome (CIS), a first episode of MS-like symptoms, due to its risk profile.
