ANTICHOLINERGIC DRUGS
Why this applies to Trifluoperazine
Trifluoperazine falls under ANTICHOLINERGIC DRUGS — the group Poria Mushroom interacts with.
In animal research, poria mushroom essential oil reduces acetylcholinesterase activity. This interaction has not been shown in humans.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the short version: Trifluoperazine (Stelazine) has some anticholinergic activity, meaning part of how it works involves blocking the chemical messenger acetylcholine. In animal studies, poria mushroom appears to do the opposite by raising acetylcholine levels. So in theory, taking poria could slightly dampen the anticholinergic side of trifluoperazine.
What does that mean for you? Honestly, not much that we can prove. This idea comes only from lab and animal research, and it has never been shown in people. It's possible, but unlikely to cause a noticeable change. Trifluoperazine is a serious medication for managing schizophrenia or anxiety, so before adding poria, I'd just run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

“An antipsychotic like trifluoperazine (Stelazine) leaves little slack for supplements that pile on side effects, and this list deserves a careful read. Five of the 76 ingredients on file rate major, and the largest cluster, 30 ingredients, adds anticholinergic load to a drug that already tends to cause dry mouth, constipation, and conf…”

Poria mushroom (Fu Ling) is a fungus long used in Traditional Chinese Medicine, mainly as a mild diuretic and digestive and calming aid. It is generally considered well tolerated, but talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using it, and avoid it in pregnancy and breastfeeding due to a lack of safety data.
