Quercetin + Chlorpropamide
Chlorpropamide brand names: Diabinese, Chlorpropam.
Chlorpropamide falls into 2 drug categories that Quercetin can interact with; the most serious is rated moderate. Theoretically, concomitant use might increase the levels and adverse effects of CYP2D6 substrates.

These two interact in 2 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 2 Interactions?
Quercetin interacts with whole categories of medication. Chlorpropamide falls into 2 of those categories, so it can interact with Quercetin in 2 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Moderate).
CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES
1 of 2Why this applies to Chlorpropamide
Chlorpropamide falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Quercetin interacts with.
In vitro research show that quercetin inhibits CYP2D6. This effect has not been reported in humans.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the honest picture: the concern on file is that quercetin might block an enzyme called CYP2D6, which could let drugs cleared that way build up. The catch is that this comes only from lab (test tube) studies, and it has not been seen in real people. On top of that, chlorpropamide is mostly handled by other pathways, not primarily CYP2D6, so this particular concern is pretty theoretical for this medicine.
Still, anything that raises chlorpropamide levels could push your blood sugar too low. Watch for shakiness, sweating, dizziness, confusion, or hunger, and treat lows quickly. Food amounts of quercetin are unlikely to matter. Before starting a high-dose supplement, just check with your pharmacist or doctor so you can keep an eye on your sugars.

ANTIDIABETES DRUGS
2 of 2Chlorpropamide also falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS.
Clinical research suggests that a combination of quercetin, myricetin, and chlorogenic acid reduce levels of fasting glucose in patients with type 2 diabetes, including those already taking antidiabetes agents. The effect of quercetin alone is unknown.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist for chlorpropamide (Diabinese): this is a sulfonylurea, meaning it pushes your pancreas to release more insulin and pull your blood sugar down. Quercetin may have a mild blood-sugar-lowering effect of its own, so stacking the two could, in theory, drop your numbers a little too far. That's hypoglycemia, and with chlorpropamide it can be stubborn because this drug hangs around in the body a long time. Watch for shakiness, sweating, dizziness, confusion, or sudden hunger.
Honestly, the evidence here is on the soft side, and most was from quercetin combined with other plant compounds, not quercetin by itself. Food amounts (apples, onions, berries) are very unlikely to matter. If you're eyeing a concentrated supplement, check in with your pharmacist or doctor first and keep an eye on your home glucose readings.

What These Ratings Mean
Every interaction above is graded three ways — here’s the key to each label.
Clinically significant. Avoid the combination, or use only under close professional supervision.
Usually worth avoiding or managing — may need monitoring, a dose change, or timing apart.
Generally not serious. Be aware of it and mention it to your pharmacist.
- LikelyWell-controlled human studies have demonstrated the likely existence of this interaction.
- ProbableInteraction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports.
- PossibleInteraction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
- UnlikelyInteraction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans.

About Quercetin
What is Quercetin?
- Seasonal allergies
- Antioxidant support
- Heart and blood pressure health
- Anti-inflammatory support
- Immune support
- Exercise recovery
Quercetin is a plant flavonoid with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties found in many common foods and sold as a supplement. While early research is interesting for allergies, blood pressure, and inflammation, strong human evidence is limited for most uses. It is generally well tolerated in food amounts, but talk to your pharmacist or doctor before taking high-dose supplements.

Chlorpropamide Is Linked to Lower Levels of One Nutrient
Natural Medicines records Chlorpropamide as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Quercetin — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
