Quercetin + Rimegepant
Rimegepant brand name: Nurtec ODT.
Rimegepant falls into 2 drug categories that Quercetin can interact with; the most serious is rated moderate. Theoretically, concomitant use might alter the effects and adverse effects of CYP3A4 substrates.

These two interact in 2 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 2 Interactions?
Quercetin interacts with whole categories of medication. Rimegepant falls into 2 of those categories, so it can interact with Quercetin in 2 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Moderate).
CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
1 of 2Why this applies to Rimegepant
Rimegepant falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Quercetin interacts with.
A small clinical study in healthy volunteers shows that pretreatment with quercetin increases plasma levels and prolongs the half-life of a single dose of cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune), a substrate of CYP3A4. Animal research also shows that pretreatment with quercetin increases plasma levels and prolongs the half-life of losartan (Cozaar) and quetiapine (Seroquel), substrates of CYP3A4. Other laboratory research also shows that quercetin inhibits CYP3A4. However, one clinical study shows that quercetin can increase the metabolism of midazolam, a substrate of CYP3A4, and decrease serum concentrations of midazolam by about 24% in some healthy individuals, suggesting possible induction of CYP3A4.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist: your body relies on an enzyme called CYP3A4 to break down rimegepant (Nurtec ODT). Quercetin can nudge that enzyme, but the research is mixed. In a few studies quercetin seemed to block CYP3A4 (which would let rimegepant build up a bit, possibly meaning more nausea or stomach upset), while another study suggested it might actually speed the enzyme up (which could weaken rimegepant's effect).
The honest truth is this comes mostly from lab and animal work, plus a couple of small human studies, so it's theoretical and not something to lose sleep over. Food amounts of quercetin are very unlikely to matter. If you're taking a high-dose supplement, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

P-GLYCOPROTEIN SUBSTRATES
2 of 2Rimegepant also falls under P-GLYCOPROTEIN SUBSTRATES.
There is preliminary evidence that quercetin inhibits the gastrointestinal P-glycoprotein efflux pump, which might increase the bioavailability and serum levels of drugs transported by the pump. A small study in healthy volunteers reported that pretreatment with quercetin increased bioavailability and plasma levels after a single dose of cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune). Also, two small studies have shown that quercetin might decrease the absorption of talinolol, a substrate transported by the gastrointestinal P-glycoprotein efflux pump. However, in another small study, several days of quercetin treatment did not significantly affect the pharmacokinetics of saquinavir (Invirase). The reason for these discrepancies is not entirely clear. Until more is known, use quercetin cautiously in combination with P-glycoprotein substrates.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the short version: Nurtec (rimegepant) is moved around your body partly by a transporter called P-glycoprotein, which acts like a bouncer controlling how much of the drug gets into your bloodstream. Quercetin in supplement form may quiet that bouncer down. If it does, a bit more rimegepant could be absorbed than usual, which in theory might nudge up its effects and side effects like nausea or stomach upset.
Honestly, the evidence here is thin and mostly theoretical, based on small studies with other drugs, not rimegepant itself. Quercetin from foods like apples, onions, and berries is very unlikely to matter. Concentrated high-dose supplements are where I'd be a little cautious. Before pairing them, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Rimegepant page
“Rimegepant (Nurtec ODT), the dissolving migraine tablet, calls for real care alongside supplements, and three entries deserve your attention before anything else. Grapefruit can block the CYP3A4 enzyme that clears rimegepant, raising its blood levels and the chance of side effects.”

About Quercetin
What is Quercetin?
- Seasonal allergies
- Antioxidant support
- Heart and blood pressure health
- Anti-inflammatory support
- Immune support
- Exercise recovery
Quercetin is a plant flavonoid with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties found in many common foods and sold as a supplement. While early research is interesting for allergies, blood pressure, and inflammation, strong human evidence is limited for most uses. It is generally well tolerated in food amounts, but talk to your pharmacist or doctor before taking high-dose supplements.
About Rimegepant
What Is Rimegepant Used For?
Brand name: Nurtec ODT
Nurtec ODT is approved for two distinct uses in adults. First, it treats an active migraine attack — with or without aura — when one occurs. Second, it is taken on an every-other-day schedule to prevent episodic migraine from happening in the first place.
Both uses are specific to Nurtec ODT (rimegepant) orally disintegrating tablets.
