Here's the thing about combining rue with your Ricobid (chlorpheniramine and phenylephrine). This isn't a classic liver-enzyme tug-of-war where one changes how fast the other breaks down. Instead, rue carries plant compounds called furanocoumarins and psoralens that can make your skin extra sensitive to sunlight. Certain medicines, including some antihistamine combinations like this one, are listed as potentially photosensitizing too, so the worry is that the two together could stack up that effect.

What that might look like in real life is a faster or stronger sunburn, redness, or a rash on skin that's exposed to the sun. I'll be honest, the evidence here is thin and mostly theoretical, based on a few case reports rather than solid studies. Still, if you do use rue, a little extra sun protection makes sense. Check with your pharmacist or doctor before mixing them.
