Selenium + Norgestrel
Norgestrel brand names: Ovrette, Orval 21.
Selenium has a minor interaction with Norgestrel. Contraceptive drugs might increase levels of selenium, although the clinical significance of this effect is unclear.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CONTRACEPTIVE DRUGS
Why this applies to Norgestrel
Norgestrel falls under CONTRACEPTIVE DRUGS — the group Selenium interacts with.
Some research suggests that oral contraceptives increase serum selenium levels in women taking oral contraceptives; however, other research shows no change in selenium levels. It is suggested that an increase could be due to increased carrier proteins, indicating a redistribution of selenium rather than a change in total body selenium.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist for Norgestrel, the progestin in your mini-pill: it's the birth control that may nudge your selenium numbers, not the other way around. Some studies found that women on hormonal contraceptives show slightly higher selenium readings in their blood, while other studies saw no difference at all. The leading thought is that the pill raises certain carrier proteins, so selenium gets shuffled around in the bloodstream rather than truly building up in your body.
This is rated minor, and Norgestrel itself isn't affected, so your pill should keep working the same and you wouldn't expect new side effects from this. If you take a selenium supplement, just stick to recommended amounts (too much selenium is hard on the body) and run it by your pharmacist or doctor.

These are real questions from readers, answered by the pharmacists at HelloPharmacist — written by a person, not generated from a database. Each one covers Selenium or Norgestrel, not necessarily both, but if one is close to what you were about to ask it will usually go further than a database entry can:

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Norgestrel page
“Norgestrel (Ovrette) is a progestin-only birth control pill, so the biggest danger on this page is not a strange side effect but a pill that quietly stops working. That risk makes this a page for genuine vigilance.”

About Selenium
What is Selenium?
- Thyroid health support
- Antioxidant support
- Immune support
- General nutrient supplementation
- Reproductive/fertility support
Selenium is an essential trace mineral your body needs in small amounts for thyroid function, antioxidant defense, and immune health. Most people who eat a varied diet get enough, and supplements are mainly useful for those who are deficient. Because too much selenium can be toxic, stick to recommended amounts and check with your pharmacist or doctor before supplementing.
About Progestin-Only (norethindrone) Oral Contraceptives
What Is Progestin-Only (norethindrone) Oral Contraceptives Used For?
Brand names: Ovrette, Orval 21
Norethindrone progestin-only pills — sometimes called the "mini-pill" — are used solely to prevent pregnancy. They do not contain estrogen, which makes them an option for women who cannot or prefer not to use estrogen-containing contraceptives.
When taken perfectly (same time every day, no missed pills), fewer than 1 in 100 women will become pregnant in the first year. With typical use, that number rises to about 9 in 100 — mostly because of late or skipped pills. Consistency is everything with this method.

Norgestrel Is Linked to Lower Levels of 2 Nutrients
Natural Medicines records Norgestrel as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Selenium — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
