Shilajit and Oxandrolone

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Oxandrolone and Shilajit in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

How we checked

Why No Interaction Is Listed for Oxandrolone

Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Oxandrolone is filed under a single classification — oral drugs. Shilajit has documented interactions with 1 drug class — the most serious being antidiabetes drugs (moderate) — and none of Oxandrolone’s classifications are among them.

Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.

What to actually watch for

What Shilajit Itself Has Been Linked To

This is not an interaction — nothing below involves Oxandrolone. It is the side-effect record for Shilajit on its own, from the licensed Natural Medicines monograph. If something new turns up after you add Shilajit, this list is the first place to look. 3 entries are worth acting on rather than waiting out — marked below.

  • Low potassium Worth acting on Additional detail

“Orally, a case of apparent mineralocorticoid excess, or pseudohyperaldosteronism, with edema, increased urinary potassium, calcium, and magnesium loss, hypokalemia, and metabolic alkalosis, is reported in a 37-year-old female following the use of shilajit for 6 months during pregnancy. Product discontinuation and treatment with intravenous and oral potassium led to restoration of potassium levels.”

Overlapping uses

What Oxandrolone Is Prescribed For, and What Shilajit Has Been Studied For

These two come up together because they touch the same health topic — not because they do the same job. Oxandrolone is a prescription medicine with approved uses on its FDA label. Shilajit is a supplement: what follows is what researchers have looked at it for, and how strong that evidence is.

Shilajit has been studied for:

  • Osteoporosis studied, not established Shilajit has been studied for this. Natural Medicines rates the evidence: Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate Read what the research shows

    Shilajit for osteoporosis

It is unclear if oral shilajit is beneficial for osteoporosis.

Effectiveness ratings and the research summaries above are the verbatim record from the Natural Medicines database, which grades evidence from “Effective” down to “Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate”. A rating below the top of that scale means researchers have looked at it — not that it works, and never that it can stand in for a prescribed medicine. Do not stop or replace Oxandrolone on your own; if you are taking Shilajit for the same health topic, tell your prescriber, especially if the medicine is being adjusted to a target.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Oxandrolone page

“Every supplement known to interact with oxandrolone (Oxandrin, Anavar) works the same basic way: it can change how much of the tablet actually reaches your bloodstream. About Shilajit

What is Shilajit?

  • Fatigue and low energy
  • Male fertility and testosterone support
  • General vitality and aging
  • Athletic performance
  • Cognitive support

Shilajit is a sticky, tar-like substance found in rocks of mountain ranges like the Himalayas, used in traditional Ayurvedic medicine for energy and vitality. Human evidence is limited and mostly small or early-stage, so its real benefits are uncertain. Quality and purity vary widely, and contamination with heavy metals is a real concern, so choose tested products and talk to your pharmacist before use.

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Shilajit is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Shilajit record says about it on its own.

Shilajit: dosing

There is no well-established standard dose for shilajit, and products vary a lot in strength and form. Choose products that have been independently tested for heavy metals and contaminants.

About Oxandrolone

What Is Oxandrolone Used For?

Brand names: Oxandrin, Anavar

  • Oxandrolone is used with a diet program to cause weight gain in people who have lost too much weight due to surgery, injury, chronic (long-lasting) infections, trauma, or who are underweight for unknown reasons. Oxandrolone is also used to treat bone pain in people with osteoporosis (a condition in which the bones become thin and weak and break easily) and to prevent certain side effects in people who take corticosteroids (a group of medications used to treat many conditions that involve inflammation or swelling of part of the body) for a long time. Oxandrolone is in a class of medications called androgenic hormones. It works by increasing the amount of protein made by the body. This protein is used to build more muscle and increase body weight.
