Warfarin falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Sorrel interacts with.

Theoretically, sorrel might cause additive effects and side effects when used with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
In vitro, sorrel has been shown to inhibit platelet aggregation. However, this effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the simple version: in lab dishes, sorrel has shown a mild ability to keep platelets (the cells that help form clots) from sticking together. Since warfarin is already a blood thinner, the worry is that piling sorrel on top could nudge your blood toward thinning a little more than intended. In theory, that might mean easier bruising, nosebleeds, bleeding gums, or blood that takes longer to stop.

I want to be honest, though: this has only been seen in test-tube studies, never confirmed in real people, so it's more of a caution than a proven problem. Warfarin is a finicky drug where small shifts matter, so cooking-amount sorrel is unlikely to rock the boat, but concentrated supplements are worth running by your pharmacist or doctor first. Don't change anything on your own.

What Is Warfarin Used For?

Brand name: Warfarin

Warfarin sodium tablets and Jantoven tablets are both used to prevent and treat venous thrombosis (blood clots in the veins) and pulmonary embolism (a clot in the lungs). They are also used to prevent clot-related complications in people with atrial fibrillation (an irregular heart rhythm) or who have had a heart valve replaced.

In people who have had a heart attack, warfarin is used to reduce the risk of death, another heart attack, stroke, or other clotting events. It does not dissolve an existing clot, but it helps prevent the clot from growing and stops new dangerous clots from forming.
