Armodafinil falls under P-GLYCOPROTEIN SUBSTRATES — the group Strawberry interacts with.

In vitro research suggests that strawberry extract can inhibit p-glycoprotein efflux. Theoretically, strawberry might inhibit p-glycoprotein mediated drug efflux and potentially increase levels of drugs that are substrates of p-glycoprotein. Until more is known, strawberry should be used cautiously in people taking p-glycoprotein substrates.
Drugs that might be affected include some chemotherapeutic agents (etoposide, paclitaxel, vinblastine, vincristine, vindesine), antifungals (ketoconazole, itraconazole), protease inhibitors (amprenavir, indinavir, nelfinavir, saquinavir), H2 antagonists (cimetidine, ranitidine), some calcium channel blockers (diltiazem, verapamil), corticosteroids, erythromycin, cisapride (Propulsid), fexofenadine (Allegra), cyclosporine, loperamide (Imodium), quinidine, and others.

Here's the gist: in a lab dish, strawberry extract slowed down a cellular pump called P-glycoprotein, which helps move certain medicines out of your body. If that same effect happened in people, drugs handled by this pump could build up a bit more than usual. Since armodafinil (Nuvigil) is in this group, the theory is that strawberry could nudge its levels up, which might mean stronger effects like headache, jitteriness, a racing heart, nausea, or trouble sleeping.

The important part: this is based only on test-tube research, not real patients, so it's very theoretical. Eating strawberries as a normal food is unlikely to cause a problem. If you're considering a concentrated strawberry supplement, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

What Is Armodafinil Used For?

Brand name: Nuvigil

Armodafinil tablets (including the brand Nuvigil) are used to improve wakefulness in adults who have excessive sleepiness linked to one of three conditions: obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), narcolepsy, or shift work disorder (SWD).

In obstructive sleep apnea, armodafinil treats the sleepiness itself — not the underlying airway obstruction. If CPAP (a breathing device worn during sleep) is the right treatment for you, your doctor should try that first before adding armodafinil for sleepiness.
