Hay prepared from dried sweet vernal grass contains an anticoagulant, dicoumarol, which has been associated with fatal hemorrhages in animals. Theoretically, taking dried sweet vernal grass might cause additive effects and side effects with drugs having anticoagulant or antiplatelet properties.

Here's the gist: Anagrelide does two jobs. It lowers your platelet count, and on top of that it mildly keeps platelets from clumping. So it already nudges you toward easier bleeding. When sweet vernal grass dries, it can form dicoumarol, a natural blood thinner. Stacking a blood-thinning compound on top of a platelet-lowering drug could, in theory, add up and make bleeding or bruising more likely.

To be clear, this is theoretical. It comes from animal observations and how these compounds behave, not from human studies, and the dicoumarol forms mainly in spoiled, moldy dried grass rather than a casual scent or flavoring. Still, watch for easy bruising, nosebleeds, bleeding gums, or dark stools, and check with your pharmacist or doctor before using this supplement.

What Is Anagrelide Used For?

Brand name: Agrylin

Anagrelide — sold as Agrylin and as generic anagrelide capsules — is used to treat thrombocythemia secondary to myeloproliferative neoplasms. That means it's prescribed when a bone marrow disorder causes the body to produce too many platelets, raising the risk of dangerous blood clots.

By bringing platelet counts down to a safer range, anagrelide also helps reduce related symptoms, including bleeding and clotting events (thrombo-hemorrhagic events).
