Canagliflozin falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group Tamarind interacts with.

Theoretically, tamarind seed extract might have additive effects when used with antidiabetes drugs.
Animal research suggests that an extract of tamarind seed can reduce fasting blood glucose levels. Monitor blood glucose levels closely. Dose adjustments might be necessary.

Here's the gist with tamarind and Invokana (canagliflozin): tamarind seed extract has shown a mild blood-sugar-lowering effect in animal studies. Canagliflozin already lowers blood sugar by helping your kidneys flush out extra glucose. So in theory, stacking the two could push your blood sugar a little lower than expected.

I want to be honest about the evidence though, this is based on lab and animal work, not solid human studies, so it's far from a sure thing. If your numbers do dip too low, you might feel shaky, sweaty, dizzy, or unusually tired. Eating tamarind as a normal food in cooking is very unlikely to cause trouble. The bigger question is concentrated seed supplements. Don't change anything on your own, just check your sugars and run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

What Is Canagliflozin Used For?

Brand name: Invokana

Invokana (canagliflozin) is used alongside diet and exercise to improve blood sugar control in adults and children aged 10 and older with type 2 diabetes. It is not for type 1 diabetes.

In adults with type 2 diabetes, Invokana is also used to lower the risk of heart attack, stroke, and cardiovascular death in those with established cardiovascular disease, and to reduce the risk of serious kidney complications — including end-stage kidney disease, cardiovascular death, and hospitalization for heart failure — in those with diabetic kidney disease and high levels of protein in the urine.
