Food and medications can interfere with thyroid hormone absorption. Some foods, particularly those high in fiber or containing certain minerals like calcium or iron, can bind to thyroid hormones and reduce their absorption in the digestive tract. Additionally, taking thyroid medications with certain drugs, like antacids or calcium supplements, can hinder the effectiveness of the thyroid medication, necessitating adjustments in dosage or timing. Prescription thyroid medications, such as Synthroid, are recommended to be taken on an empty stomach, at least 30 minutes before food and other medications, for optimal absorption.

Here's the simple version: the concern on file is really about your thyroid extract getting absorbed properly, not about Eszopiclone (Lunesta) building up or weakening. When you swallow another pill alongside thyroid hormone, that other tablet can get in the way and reduce how much thyroid you actually absorb. So if you take Lunesta at the same moment as your thyroid extract, the thyroid may work less well over time.

The fix is easy and it's about timing. Thyroid products are best taken on an empty stomach, and since Lunesta is a bedtime sleep aid, the two often land together at night. Try to separate them, and check the exact spacing with your pharmacist or doctor. This is a minor, manageable issue, not a dangerous one.

What Is Eszopiclone Used For?

Brand name: Lunesta

Eszopiclone tablets — sold under the brand name Lunesta and as generics — are indicated for the treatment of insomnia. In clinical studies, eszopiclone helped people fall asleep more quickly (reduced sleep latency) and stay asleep through the night (improved sleep maintenance).

Clinical trials supporting its effectiveness lasted up to 6 months in adults and up to 2 weeks in elderly patients. Lunesta and eszopiclone generics are approved for this same indication across the available tablet formulations.
