Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
Oral Drugs
Why this applies to Febuxostat
Febuxostat falls under Oral Drugs — the group Thyroid Extract interacts with.
Well-controlled human studies have demonstrated the likely existence of this interaction.
Here's the gist with these two: it's the thyroid extract that can get its absorption thrown off, not your febuxostat (Uloric). When you swallow another oral medicine right alongside a thyroid product, the two can interfere with each other in the gut, so your body may soak up less of the thyroid hormone. That can leave the thyroid piece working less reliably, which matters since these supplements are already unpredictable in strength.
Febuxostat itself isn't a prodrug, and lowering your uric acid to prevent gout flares shouldn't be much affected here. The simple fix is spacing: take the thyroid product on an empty stomach and separate it from your febuxostat by a few hours. Your pharmacist can help you set up the timing.
What These Ratings Mean
Every interaction above is graded three ways — here’s the key to each label.
Clinically significant. Avoid the combination, or use only under close professional supervision.
Usually worth avoiding or managing — may need monitoring, a dose change, or timing apart.
Generally not serious. Be aware of it and mention it to your pharmacist.

- ProbableInteraction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports.
- PossibleInteraction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
- UnlikelyInteraction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Febuxostat page
“Febuxostat (Uloric) lowers uric acid to prevent gout attacks, and because the drug itself can stress the liver, its list of 56 interacting supplements deserves real vigilance rather than a quick skim. Thirty-eight of those entries have their own record of liver harm, stacking pressure on the same organ, and two of the four major-rated…”

About Thyroid Extract
What is Thyroid Extract?
- Hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid)
- Fatigue and low energy
- Weight management
- Sluggish metabolism
- General thyroid support
Thyroid extract supplements are made from dried animal thyroid gland and may contain real thyroid hormones (T3 and T4), but the amounts in over-the-counter products are not standardized and can be unpredictable. Self-treating a thyroid problem with these supplements can be risky, so always work with a doctor or pharmacist and use prescription thyroid medicine when treatment is needed.
About Febuxostat
What Is Febuxostat Used For?
Brand name: Uloric
Febuxostat is used for the long-term management of hyperuricemia (too much uric acid in the blood) in adults with gout. It is meant for people who did not respond well enough to the highest tolerated dose of allopurinol, who can't tolerate allopurinol, or for whom allopurinol isn't a good option.
It is not recommended for hyperuricemia that causes no symptoms. This use applies to the tablet products, including Uloric, and to the oral film product.
