Maprotiline falls under Oral Drugs — the group Thyroid Extract interacts with.

Food and medications can interfere with thyroid hormone absorption. Some foods, particularly those high in fiber or containing certain minerals like calcium or iron, can bind to thyroid hormones and reduce their absorption in the digestive tract. Additionally, taking thyroid medications with certain drugs, like antacids or calcium supplements, can hinder the effectiveness of the thyroid medication, necessitating adjustments in dosage or timing. Prescription thyroid medications, such as Synthroid, are recommended to be taken on an empty stomach, at least 30 minutes before food and other medications, for optimal absorption.

Here the concern runs the other direction from what you might expect. It isn't that maprotiline changes your thyroid extract. Instead, taking the two close together can get in the way of how well the thyroid hormone itself is absorbed. Thyroid hormones like to be taken on an empty stomach, and other pills swallowed at the same time can blunt how much gets into your system.

The simple fix is timing. Many people take their thyroid product first thing in the morning, then wait before taking other medicines like maprotiline. This is a minor issue, and separating them usually handles it. Since maprotiline can also affect mood and energy, check with your pharmacist or doctor before mixing thyroid extract in at all.
