Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
Oral Drugs
Why this applies to Cromolyn Sodium
Cromolyn Sodium falls under Oral Drugs — the group Thyroid Extract interacts with.
Well-controlled human studies have demonstrated the likely existence of this interaction.
Here's the gist of this one: if you take a swallowed (oral) form of cromolyn around the same time as a thyroid extract supplement, the cromolyn liquid can mix in your stomach and slightly get in the way of your body absorbing the thyroid hormone. The concern runs toward your thyroid levels, not toward cromolyn itself. In plain terms, you might end up absorbing a little less thyroid hormone, which over time could leave you feeling tired, sluggish, cold, or off.
The good news is this is rated a minor interaction, and the easy fix is timing. Thyroid hormone works best on an empty stomach, so spacing it away from oral cromolyn usually solves it. Since over-the-counter thyroid extract is unpredictable, please loop in your doctor or pharmacist before combining them.

About Thyroid Extract
What is Thyroid Extract?
- Hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid)
- Fatigue and low energy
- Weight management
- Sluggish metabolism
- General thyroid support
Thyroid extract supplements are made from dried animal thyroid gland and may contain real thyroid hormones (T3 and T4), but the amounts in over-the-counter products are not standardized and can be unpredictable. Self-treating a thyroid problem with these supplements can be risky, so always work with a doctor or pharmacist and use prescription thyroid medicine when treatment is needed.
About Cromolyn Oral Inhalation
What Is Cromolyn Oral Inhalation Used For?
Brand names: Intal, Novo Cromolyn
Cromolyn sodium inhalation solution is used on a regular, daily basis to help manage bronchial asthma in adults and children two years of age and older. It works best as a preventive medicine — it will not stop an asthma attack that has already started.
It can also be used as a single dose taken shortly before exposure to known triggers — such as exercise, cold dry air, animal dander, or environmental pollutants — to help prevent the sudden airway tightening those triggers can cause.
