Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
Oral Drugs
Why this applies to Alendronate Sodium
Alendronate Sodium falls under Oral Drugs — the group Thyroid Extract interacts with.
Well-controlled human studies have demonstrated the likely existence of this interaction.
Here's the thing to know if you take alendronate (Binosto) and a thyroid extract supplement: both of these medicines are very picky about how they're absorbed, and they can get in each other's way. Alendronate already has strict rules. You take it first thing in the morning on a completely empty stomach with plain water, then stay upright and wait at least 30 minutes before eating, drinking anything else, or taking other pills. Thyroid hormone has nearly the same demand for an empty stomach.
If you swallow them together, neither one absorbs well, so your bone protection and your thyroid support could both fall short. The fix is simple spacing, not stopping either one. Please ask your pharmacist or doctor to map out the timing so each medicine gets its own window. Honestly, an unregulated thyroid extract is worth discussing too.

About Thyroid Extract
What is Thyroid Extract?
- Hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid)
- Fatigue and low energy
- Weight management
- Sluggish metabolism
- General thyroid support
Thyroid extract supplements are made from dried animal thyroid gland and may contain real thyroid hormones (T3 and T4), but the amounts in over-the-counter products are not standardized and can be unpredictable. Self-treating a thyroid problem with these supplements can be risky, so always work with a doctor or pharmacist and use prescription thyroid medicine when treatment is needed.
About Alendronate
What Is Alendronate Used For?
Alendronate slows bone breakdown. It is used mainly for osteoporosis (thin, fragile bones that break more easily).
Uses differ by product. Alendronate tablets and Fosamax tablets are used for osteoporosis in postmenopausal women (treatment and prevention) and in men. They are also used for glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis and Paget's disease of bone. Alendronate sodium oral solution and Binosto effervescent tablets are used only to treat osteoporosis in postmenopausal women and to increase bone mass in men with osteoporosis.
