Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
Oral Drugs
Why this applies to Mirtazapine
Mirtazapine falls under Oral Drugs — the group Thyroid Extract interacts with.
Well-controlled human studies have demonstrated the likely existence of this interaction.
Here the concern flows the other way around. It isn't that mirtazapine (Remeron) changes how your antidepressant works, it's that taking it at the same time as a thyroid extract could get in the way of the thyroid hormone being absorbed. Anything you swallow alongside thyroid hormone can bind it up a bit in your gut, and that may leave you with slightly less thyroid effect than you intended.
The simple fix is spacing. Thyroid products are best taken on an empty stomach, and giving them their own time away from your mirtazapine and other pills helps. This is a minor, well-recognized timing issue, not a dangerous combination. Since these supplements aren't standardized, please loop in your doctor or pharmacist before relying on one.
What These Ratings Mean
Every interaction above is graded three ways — here’s the key to each label.
Clinically significant. Avoid the combination, or use only under close professional supervision.
Usually worth avoiding or managing — may need monitoring, a dose change, or timing apart.
Generally not serious. Be aware of it and mention it to your pharmacist.

Questions About Thyroid Extract or Mirtazapine
These are real questions from readers, answered by the pharmacists at HelloPharmacist — written by a person, not generated from a database. Each one covers Thyroid Extract or Mirtazapine, not necessarily both, but if one is close to what you were about to ask it will usually go further than a database entry can:
- Does DIM (Diindolylmethane) Interact With Any Drugs? ›
- Does Zoloft (Sertraline) Cause Neck And Jaw Tightness? ›
- How Long Does Amitriptyline Take To Work For Headaches? ›

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Mirtazapine page
“Depression and poor sleep tend to travel together, which is why people on mirtazapine (Remeron) so often eye herbal mood and sleep remedies, and that overlap is exactly where this list demands real care. Four of the 212 ingredients on file carry a major rating.”

About Thyroid Extract
What is Thyroid Extract?
- Hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid)
- Fatigue and low energy
- Weight management
- Sluggish metabolism
- General thyroid support
Thyroid extract supplements are made from dried animal thyroid gland and may contain real thyroid hormones (T3 and T4), but the amounts in over-the-counter products are not standardized and can be unpredictable. Self-treating a thyroid problem with these supplements can be risky, so always work with a doctor or pharmacist and use prescription thyroid medicine when treatment is needed.
About Mirtazapine
What Is Mirtazapine Used For?
Brand name: Remeron
Mirtazapine is used to treat major depressive disorder (MDD), commonly called clinical depression. The mirtazapine tablet and orally disintegrating tablet labels, including Remeron and RemeronSolTab, state use in adults.
In studies, it worked in six-week trials, and one trial showed the benefit lasted for up to 40 weeks in people who had already responded. Doctors should periodically re-check whether longer-term use is still helping.

Mirtazapine Is Linked to Lower Levels of One Nutrient
Natural Medicines records Mirtazapine as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Thyroid Extract — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
