Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
Oral Drugs
Why this applies to Erdafitinib
Erdafitinib falls under Oral Drugs — the group Thyroid Extract interacts with.
Well-controlled human studies have demonstrated the likely existence of this interaction.
Here the concern actually runs the other way from what you might expect. Erdafitinib doesn't change how thyroid extract works in your body. Instead, the thyroid hormones (T3 and T4) in these animal-derived supplements are fussy about absorption. When you swallow a pill alongside food, fiber, or minerals like calcium and iron, those things can grab onto the thyroid hormone in your gut and keep some of it from getting absorbed.
The practical takeaway is about timing and spacing, not avoiding either one. This is a minor, well-documented absorption issue, not a dangerous reaction with your cancer treatment. Because Erdafitinib is an important therapy and these supplements aren't standardized, please loop in your oncology team or pharmacist before combining them so they can guide safe spacing.

Clinically significant. Avoid the combination, or use only under close professional supervision.

About Thyroid Extract
What is Thyroid Extract?
- Hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid)
- Fatigue and low energy
- Weight management
- Sluggish metabolism
- General thyroid support
Thyroid extract supplements are made from dried animal thyroid gland and may contain real thyroid hormones (T3 and T4), but the amounts in over-the-counter products are not standardized and can be unpredictable. Self-treating a thyroid problem with these supplements can be risky, so always work with a doctor or pharmacist and use prescription thyroid medicine when treatment is needed.
About Erdafitinib
What Is Erdafitinib Used For?
Brand name: Balversa
Erdafitinib, sold as Balversa, treats adults with locally advanced or metastatic urothelial carcinoma (cancer of the bladder and urinary tract that has spread or can't be removed). The tumor must have susceptible FGFR3 genetic alterations, and the cancer must have progressed on or after at least one earlier systemic therapy.
An FDA-approved test on the tumor is used to confirm the FGFR3 change before treatment starts. Balversa is not recommended for people who are eligible for PD-1 or PD-L1 inhibitor therapy and have not yet received it.
