Here's the thing to understand about this one: the interaction on file is really about thyroid hormone absorption, not about your migraine medicine. When you swallow an oral pill alongside thyroid extract, the worry is that other foods, minerals, or pills can bind up the thyroid hormone and keep your body from absorbing it well. Almotriptan isn't doing the blocking here, it's just another oral medication taken around the same time.

Practically speaking, taking your almotriptan (Axert) for a migraine isn't likely to cause a dangerous reaction with thyroid extract. The simplest fix is timing: thyroid hormone works best on an empty stomach, so try to space your other pills away from it. Since over-the-counter thyroid extract is unpredictable anyway, please loop in your doctor or pharmacist before relying on it.

About Almotriptan

What Is Almotriptan Used For?

Brand names: Axert, Almogran

Almotriptan tablets are used to treat migraine headache attacks — with or without aura — as they happen. They are not for preventing migraines before they start.

In adults, almotriptan tablets treat acute migraine attacks. In adolescents ages 12 to 17, almotriptan tablets treat acute migraine headache pain in those who typically have attacks lasting 4 hours or more when untreated. Note that in adolescents, the effect on migraine-related symptoms such as nausea and light sensitivity was not established in clinical trials. Almotriptan is not indicated for cluster headache or for hemiplegic or basilar migraine.
