Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
Oral Drugs
Why this applies to Famciclovir
Famciclovir falls under Oral Drugs — the group Thyroid Extract interacts with.
Well-controlled human studies have demonstrated the likely existence of this interaction.
Here's the short version: this interaction is really about your thyroid extract, not your famciclovir. When you take other oral medicines and food too close to thyroid hormone, they can bind to it and lower how much thyroid hormone your body absorbs. Famciclovir itself isn't harmed here, and your shingles or cold sore treatment should still work fine.
To keep your thyroid product working its best, the usual advice is to take it on an empty stomach, about 30 to 60 minutes before food or other pills, including famciclovir. Spacing them out is an easy fix. Since over-the-counter thyroid extract is unpredictable, I'd really suggest looping in your doctor or pharmacist about using a proper prescription instead.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Famciclovir page
“Famciclovir (Famvir) treats herpes infections like shingles and cold sores, and it only works if enough of the drug gets absorbed from your gut, which is exactly where every supplement on this list can interfere. The entry I would take most seriously is activated charcoal, the lone major-rated interaction, because charcoal binds medica…”

About Thyroid Extract
What is Thyroid Extract?
- Hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid)
- Fatigue and low energy
- Weight management
- Sluggish metabolism
- General thyroid support
Thyroid extract supplements are made from dried animal thyroid gland and may contain real thyroid hormones (T3 and T4), but the amounts in over-the-counter products are not standardized and can be unpredictable. Self-treating a thyroid problem with these supplements can be risky, so always work with a doctor or pharmacist and use prescription thyroid medicine when treatment is needed.
About Famciclovir
