Additionally, taking thyroid medications with certain drugs, like antacids or calcium supplements, can hinder the effectiveness of the thyroid medication, necessitating adjustments in dosage or timing. Prescription thyroid medications, such as Synthroid, are recommended to be taken on an empty stomach, at least 30 minutes before food and other medications, for optimal absorption.

Here the concern runs in the other direction from what you might expect. Ganaxolone (Ztalmy) isn't broken down by your thyroid, and it won't change how thyroid hormone works. Instead, taking these two together can blunt how well your thyroid extract gets absorbed. Ganaxolone is an oral medication, and like food and several other pills, it can sit in the gut alongside thyroid hormone and reduce how much hormone actually makes it into your bloodstream.

This is rated minor, and the easy fix is timing. Thyroid hormone works best on an empty stomach, so spacing it well apart from Ganaxolone usually solves it.
