Oral Drugs
Why this applies to Fruquintinib
Fruquintinib falls under Oral Drugs — the group Thyroid Extract interacts with.
Well-controlled human studies have demonstrated the likely existence of this interaction.
Here's the thing to know about this pairing: the interaction really runs the other way from what you might expect. Fruquintinib (Fruzaqla), your oral cancer medicine for colorectal cancer, isn't the one being affected. Instead, taking it alongside thyroid extract can get in the way of how well the thyroid hormone is absorbed, since food and other oral medications can bind to those hormones in your gut and blunt their effect.
The good news is this is rated as a minor interaction. The simple fix is usually spacing them out, since thyroid products work best on an empty stomach, well before other pills. Since both of these should be managed by your care team anyway, please check with your oncologist or pharmacist about the best timing rather than adjusting anything on your own.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Fruquintinib page
“Fruquintinib (Fruzaqla) is an oral targeted therapy for advanced colorectal cancer, which means keeping its blood level steady is part of what makes it work, and I would treat this supplement list with genuine care. Of the 168 ingredients on file, the large majority interact through CYP3A4, the liver enzyme that clears the drug, so the…”

About Thyroid Extract
What is Thyroid Extract?
- Hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid)
- Fatigue and low energy
- Weight management
- Sluggish metabolism
- General thyroid support
Thyroid extract supplements are made from dried animal thyroid gland and may contain real thyroid hormones (T3 and T4), but the amounts in over-the-counter products are not standardized and can be unpredictable. Self-treating a thyroid problem with these supplements can be risky, so always work with a doctor or pharmacist and use prescription thyroid medicine when treatment is needed.

Fruzaqla is intended for patients who have previously received fluoropyrimidine-, oxaliplatin-, and irinotecan-based chemotherapy, an anti-VEGF therapy, and — if their tumor is RAS wild-type and it is medically appropriate — an anti-EGFR therapy.
