Furazolidone falls under Oral Drugs — the group Thyroid Extract interacts with.

Food and medications can interfere with thyroid hormone absorption. Some foods, particularly those high in fiber or containing certain minerals like calcium or iron, can bind to thyroid hormones and reduce their absorption in the digestive tract. Additionally, taking thyroid medications with certain drugs, like antacids or calcium supplements, can hinder the effectiveness of the thyroid medication, necessitating adjustments in dosage or timing. Prescription thyroid medications, such as Synthroid, are recommended to be taken on an empty stomach, at least 30 minutes before food and other medications, for optimal absorption.

Here the issue runs the other way from what you might expect. It is not that Furazolidone changes your thyroid hormone. Instead, taking other pills at the same time as thyroid extract can simply get in the way of how well that hormone is absorbed from your gut. The concern with timing is mostly about minerals, antacids, and fiber sitting in your stomach alongside the thyroid product.

Furazolidone (Furoxone) is an antibacterial used for certain infections, and there is no strong evidence it blocks thyroid absorption itself. The safe habit is to take your thyroid product on an empty stomach and separate it from other medicines by a few hours. If you take both, just ask your pharmacist to help you space the doses so each one works as intended.
