Oral Drugs
Why this applies to Pravastatin Sodium
Pravastatin Sodium falls under Oral Drugs — the group Thyroid Extract interacts with.
Well-controlled human studies have demonstrated the likely existence of this interaction.
Here's the gist for these two: when you take a thyroid extract along with your pravastatin, the concern isn't that pravastatin changes much. It's the other way around. Taking other oral pills at the same time as thyroid hormone can grab onto the thyroid hormone in your gut and keep your body from absorbing all of it. That can make your thyroid support work less reliably.
The simple fix is timing, not stopping anything. Thyroid hormone absorbs best on an empty stomach, so it's usually taken by itself and separated from other medicines and food by several hours. Your pravastatin is often taken in the evening, which makes spacing easy. Since over-the-counter thyroid extracts aren't standardized, please loop in your doctor or pharmacist before relying on one.

About Thyroid Extract
What is Thyroid Extract?
- Hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid)
- Fatigue and low energy
- Weight management
- Sluggish metabolism
- General thyroid support
Thyroid extract supplements are made from dried animal thyroid gland and may contain real thyroid hormones (T3 and T4), but the amounts in over-the-counter products are not standardized and can be unpredictable. Self-treating a thyroid problem with these supplements can be risky, so always work with a doctor or pharmacist and use prescription thyroid medicine when treatment is needed.
