Here's the practical side of combining these two. The interaction on file is really about the thyroid extract's own absorption: when you take it with other oral medicines (or with food, fiber, calcium, or iron), those can bind to the thyroid hormone and keep your body from absorbing it well. So the concern isn't that protriptyline becomes dangerous, it's that swallowing both pills at the same moment may blunt how much thyroid hormone gets in.

A simple fix many people use is spacing them out, taking the thyroid product on an empty stomach and separating it from protriptyline by a few hours. One extra note: thyroid hormones and tricyclics like protriptyline can each affect heart rate, so if you notice a racing heartbeat or jitteriness, mention it.
