Omeprazole, Sodium Bicarbonate falls under Oral Drugs — the group Thyroid Extract interacts with.

Food and medications can interfere with thyroid hormone absorption. Some foods, particularly those high in fiber or containing certain minerals like calcium or iron, can bind to thyroid hormones and reduce their absorption in the digestive tract. Additionally, taking thyroid medications with certain drugs, like antacids or calcium supplements, can hinder the effectiveness of the thyroid medication, necessitating adjustments in dosage or timing. Prescription thyroid medications, such as Synthroid, are recommended to be taken on an empty stomach, at least 30 minutes before food and other medications, for optimal absorption.

Here's the simple version: your thyroid hormone needs a fairly acidic stomach to be absorbed well. Konvomep (omeprazole with sodium bicarbonate) works by turning down stomach acid, and the baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) part adds an antacid effect on top of that. When the stomach is less acidic, your body may pick up less of the T3 and T4 from a thyroid extract, so you could feel like your thyroid support isn't working as well. Think sluggishness, tiredness, feeling cold, or weight creeping up.

The good news is this is rated minor and easy to manage, usually by spacing the two out and keeping your timing consistent. Don't change anything on your own, just ask your pharmacist or doctor how to schedule them.
