Additionally, taking thyroid medications with certain drugs, like antacids or calcium supplements, can hinder the effectiveness of the thyroid medication, necessitating adjustments in dosage or timing. Prescription thyroid medications, such as Synthroid, are recommended to be taken on an empty stomach, at least 30 minutes before food and other medications, for optimal absorption.

Here's the simple version: this interaction is really about the thyroid extract, not your blood pressure pill. Taking other oral medicines too close to your thyroid supplement can block how much hormone your body absorbs, so you may not get the full thyroid effect. Moexipril (Univasc) doesn't change in any worrisome way here, it's just one of the many oral medications that can get in the way if swallowed at the same time.

The easy fix is timing. Many people take thyroid hormone on an empty stomach and wait a while before other pills. Moexipril itself still works as usual to relax your blood vessels and lower pressure. To be safe, ask your pharmacist how to space these two so each one does its job.

What Is Moexipril Used For?

Brand name: Univasc

Moexipril Hydrochloride tablets are used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). They can be used on their own or combined with thiazide diuretics (water pills) when blood pressure is not controlled by moexipril alone.

It's worth knowing that ACE inhibitors, including moexipril, tend to lower blood pressure less effectively in Black patients than in non-Black patients, and Black patients also have a higher risk of a serious swelling reaction called angioedema with ACE inhibitors.
