Why this applies to Anagrelide

Anagrelide falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Tocotrienols interacts with.

Concomitant use of tocotrienols with anticoagulant or antiplatelet agents might increase the risk of bleeding. However, this has not been reported in humans.
Taking tocotrienols orally inhibits experimentally-induced platelet aggregation in humans. Theoretically tocotrienols might increase the risk of bleeding if taken with antiplatelet or anticoagulant drugs. However, tocotrienols 400-800 mg daily have been used with aspirin and/or clopidogrel for 1 year with no clear cumulative antiplatelet effects and no reports of bleeding.

Here's the gist with anagrelide and tocotrienols. Anagrelide already lowers your platelets and has a mild blood-thinning action of its own. Tocotrienols, a form of vitamin E, can make platelets a little less sticky in lab settings. So in theory, stacking the two could add up and slightly raise your chance of bruising or bleeding, like nosebleeds, bleeding gums, or a cut that's slow to stop.

That said, I want to keep this in perspective. This is rated a minor and unlikely interaction, and it hasn't actually been reported in people. In fact, fairly high tocotrienol doses were used alongside aspirin and clopidogrel for a year without extra bleeding. Still, since you're already managing your platelet count, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before adding tocotrienols, and let them know if you notice any unusual bleeding.

What Is Anagrelide Used For?

Brand name: Agrylin

Anagrelide — sold as Agrylin and as generic anagrelide capsules — is used to treat thrombocythemia secondary to myeloproliferative neoplasms. That means it's prescribed when a bone marrow disorder causes the body to produce too many platelets, raising the risk of dangerous blood clots.

By bringing platelet counts down to a safer range, anagrelide also helps reduce related symptoms, including bleeding and clotting events (thrombo-hemorrhagic events).
